I never thought that being natural would change my life. I have always flat ironed or relaxed my hair. However,since beginning this natural journey, I have been contemplating wearing my hair natural. If fact, all last year I made myself hold out until summer to wear my hair.
Well summer came and I did just that. I wore my hair out and got a little more comfortable.
Fall came and I felt better about it. And now its late Oct early Nov and I feel like I have completely embraced my natural hair. I have embraced it so much so that I only managed to keep it straight for one week.
Sat night my beautiful straight stands went back into warm water and out came my sunshine curls!

Hello world. I have finally decided to embark on the natural hair journey among many other things. So now my fun and fearless blogs are once again devoted to all things me (to some degree). I realize that I have a lot to share and probably in some way would benefit from sharing my randomness with others.

Now there are lots of blogs out there and I will not say just how mine will be different, but yet I know that I am different so that is a start.....

Getting over the break -up and past the let's get back together phase!

Okay, so I haven't blogged in a while. I have been busy working on my dissertation, hanging with friends, and trying to get over heartbreak.

At first of course it was easy. I had a date each week and a something fun to do. But eventually a moment of silence and stillness comes over me and it hits me. What hits me is - heartache.

Overtime, I lose sight of why we broke up in the first place and then start thinking about the "good" times and suddenly I am seeing the person and talking on the phone. Only in a few days to realize that it's not going to work and then I remember why it didn't work.

So in the mist of my teary sadness -this time- I got on the Internet and begin reading articles about people that have experienced the same pain. Being the researcher that I am, here is a list of the tips that I found most helpful!

Allow yourself to be whatever you feel. Don't try to avoid or hide your pain. You are human and most human people feel. If you loved someone and it didn't work out of course its going to hurt. But that is okay. Grieve until you feel better
Go out with your friends. LIVE, LOVE, and LAUGH!
Talk about your pain or write it down.
Don't send nasty email sor leave crazy messages - it only makes things worse and its a temporary fix
Don't let your anger rule you.
Do something new and try new things
Read sites and tips that help you get over you love hump
Date but only at your pace. Don't move to fast. You will only end up hurting someone that had nothing to do with your past
DO NOT CALL, TAKE CALLS, or EMAIL YOUR Ex. Even if they call you, its best to ignore it because if you don't old feeling will reoccur and your heart will break all over again
Keep the old relationship is balance. If it didn't work because your needs were not met or the person accused you of something you didn't do then accept that. Don't rationalize it.
Don't listen to other people that don't know the details but want you to be with someone that didn't make you happy.
Give yourself time to heal. Day by day it gets easier.
Forgive yourself if you make the fatal mistake and contact your ex. Stuff happens
Don't become friends with your ex until you are READY. Understand the you and your ex may never be friends and that's okay too!
Believe that a new and better love awaits you. I know you can't see it now but something new and worthwhile will come your way.

Does love have a timeline?

Have you ever been in love? Was is worth it? Would you do it again? Does love have a timeline? How long is long enough to know that you love someone? Is there a such thing as to soon?

I say no! It just depends on what you want, what you believe, and who you are!

I used to think that you have to date at least a year to really know if someone is right for you but now I believe that when the love is right, then its right. Time and circumstance cannot hold two people that are made for each other.

Pink Zebra Nails

I love nail designs! It's gotten so bad I brought the little design finger nail polishes from my local beauty supply store.

I have been creating flowers and zebra prints!

Is hip hop starting to appreciate women?

Question: Is there a new trend in hip hop. Are male artist beginning to show appreciation for sista's and women in general? hmmm. There are two answers to this question Yes and No!

I admit that I like hearing -Ms. Independent (Jamie Foxx and Neyo) and 5 Star Chick (Yo Gotti). But after researching the Gotti Lyrics and seeing that in the actual rap another word so commonly used to describe women is used instead of chick I am dismayed.

Brothers of all colors this is a memo to you. No woman enjoys being called out her name for any reason. I know that sometimes we act outside of ourselves but we are far better than a mere word. Understand that the plight and journey of a woman is one that you will never really be able to comprehend. This is the reason why God made us the child bearer. We have a ability above all else to take it and make it all while supporting you.

To all Hip Hop lovers and artist - please show women respect even if we don't respect ourselves. Some of us are lost and do not understand the nature of being a true women i.e. Ms. Independent.

With that, know that music has the ability to change how we see each other and ourselves. So artists, in my opinion, have to learn to transmit respect for women rather than disrespect.

Sound that seems to zoom through my computer speakers. Maxwell's latest album is BEAUTIFUL! He has a series of funky yet heart melting sounds that transform your mood. His music always make me reflect on past friendships and relationships.

The song "Pretty Wings" in my opinion, is his reflection of a love lost that deserves a better love. Overall the album is a mix of classic Maxwell and other acoustic sounds with a very soulful vibe.

Laura Ling in Prison in North Korea

I am a fan of Lisa Ling. Her style of journalism is great and realistic. I been watching her news reports since MTV. Now she is more independent and reports about issues and occurrences as they happen around the world.

Recently, her younger sister was detained by N. Korea officials and placed in prison for attempting to cross the border. There are a lot of undisclosed details and tension about the situation is rising. CNN reports that Hilliary Clinton has asked the N. Korea givernement to release Ling's sister along with another prison be released on amnesty.

Now the question is will this happen and when will it happen? The U.S. and N. Korea aren't exactly bf's at this point in time. Furthermore, what does this action say to American journalist that try to get into North Korea.

Does reality tv drive you nuts or make your day?

My opinion various based on the show. For example, I actually like watching the Bad Girls Club (Tues 10pm on Oxygen)! I am not sure why I like the show or why it interest me but I find it entertaining.

I watched the stars of the show on Tyra Banks today and found myself laughing and rolling on the things that bad girls do. I do admit that these girls need anger management and possibly a visit to a therapist but isn't that what we all need!

I am not much of a bad girl but I have had my moments when some would say whoa she is "gangsta". So maybe I like the show because I can relate.

I also like watching MTV's the Hills and the City. I like these shows mainly because of the FASHION. These ladies bring with cute sunglassess, bags, jeans, and overall styling. I like LC and Whittney because they make is easy and fun. Their makeup is also cool. I will often watch the show and focus on what they wear and think about how I can incorporate it into my own style. That's when I go out to the malls or shop online, I look for a signature look.

What is good hair and what is bad hair?

It's interesting that people have so many different opinions about hair. It's also interesting to hear the opinions that people feel like they can share with you because you are deciding to go natural.

I like wild and natural hair. In fact I cannot wait until all of my hair grows out and I am able to fully rock in natural.
